February 9th 2010 - 12:32:46 MSTMy wife, Anna, has started a new blog concerning the finer points of dining and the writing of food. It's located at thebrilliantmeal.com. Please feel free to comment, and even start writing her about your most brilliant meal. She's also starting up a few other projects with writing that may interest you. I'm sure that she'll post on her blog as soon as they're up and operational. See you on the internet!
Sufjan Stevens -- The BQE
January 18th 2010 - 18:30:52 MSTI've just recently gotten hooked onto a new album of Sufjan's, The BQE.
For most of you who haven't had the great pleasure of riding the BQE, it is the Brooklyn/Queens Expressway, A terribly busy stretch of highway in New York. While I haven't quite understood the reasons why Sufjan decided to write a symphonic soundtrack to accompany it, I really enjoy the music.
This is probably contrary to everyone else who knows Sufjan Stevens through his work in "Illinois" and that wonderful (but very different) sound of Folk Rock.
This is a different animal. I'd have to place it somewhere between modern classical and experimental jazz. Possibly one of my favorite tracks on the whole album, Interlude III: Invisible Accidents, is no longer than 60 seconds and switches seamlessly between 6/4 and 7/4 time. It's addicting. Another favorite is Movement III: Linear Tableau with Intersecting Surprise. It's a fun flute and other assorted woodwind play with stereo, but definitely with a dash of Sufjan to make it just a tad whimsical.
I wouldn't recommend this album to everyone. It's really for those lovers of classical/jazz. "The BQE" is definitely in the style of previous Sufjan albums, but don't expect the Mr. Stevens that you see in "Illinois".
A long explanation and additional information can be found at Sufjan's Label, Asthmatic Kitty Records.
Back from exile.
January 13th 2010 - 18:07:12 MSTWoo, a new year, a new site. I've placed the old "Chronophobia" album back on the site as people had requested it be put back up for download. Still working on demo songs. They'll be all-new, and probably not posted here... I haven't decided yet. I swear, some of them just need to make the voyage from keyboard memory to usable format and then we'll be in business.
A New Beginning
December 17th 2009 - 18:23:05 MSTDue to some inter-web confusions, the site has needed to change around to a newer, more descriptive domain. I'm hoping to get up some new songs in the near future as well. There is new stuff, it's just locked inside the keyboard waiting to spring out and into formats that the rest of the world can actually listen to! The contact form is working and ready to go, and all of the other, older, songs are back up and operational. I'll put up another post when I've got some new stuff up and ready for human consumption.
Changes to the site again
October 13th 2008 - 11:34:07 MSTSome of you may have noticed that some songs that used to be here disappeared and one of the albums that used to exist, no longer does. I am going to demo some of my music. While only one of the songs on the demo was previously on the website, I've pulled down the entire album of new stuff. Only my first self-released album is now available. We'll see how things go. Heck, if nothing pans out, I could go back to "releasing" new albums on the site. I'll post more information as I have it. I need to start looking at publishers. Perhaps... Astralwerks?. We'll see.
